Origin and habitat:

This species is native to South America, particularly central Bolivia and parts of Brazil, where it lives in open habitats, including agricultural areas and small towns. Introduced colonies can also be found in large cities.

Identification:

The monk parakeet is characterised by its light lime-green plumage above, whitish face and breast, ochre-coloured beak and blue wingtips.

Behaviour and personality:

This is a highly intelligent, sociable and talkative bird. It is renowned for its ability to interact, learn words and play. Affectionate, it can develop a strong bond with its owner.

Specificity:

This is the only conure species that does not form dormitories to spend the night.
