The Brussels Airport control tower, inaugurated in 2004 in the municipality of Steenokkerzeel, is a key element in the safety and regulation of air traffic at one of Europe's most important airport hubs. With its iconic architecture, the tower is eye-catching not only for its panoramic view of the entire airport and the ballet of aircraft, but also because it brings together the main functions and teams involved in air traffic control, weather forecasting and operational traffic management.
This modern and hyper-functional building covers more than 3,500 square metres on the ground floor, housing the software development teams, the Met Office for weather forecasting, and the Aeronautical Information Centre (AIM). The central shaft of the tower houses the lifts that allow air traffic controllers and meteorologists to access the upper levels, from where they have a 360° view and use advanced technologies to guide the many daily arrivals and departures safely.
