The Verdiales (or Verdiales Festival) is a festive event of very ancient and peasant origin, of a socio-musical nature, exclusive to certain geographical areas in the province of Malaga (Axarquia, Guadalhorce Valley and Montes de Malaga).
The Fiesta de Verdiales is one of the most deeply rooted cultural expressions in the territory of Malaga, although it is especially related to the region of the Montes, being the songs and dances themselves the result of a specific ecological-cultural context, where they have been forged and developed, without rigorous regulations, among roads, vereas, isolated pagos or partíos, ventas or lagares, showing their people, in the ruggedness of these lands, specific forms of representation, linked to these places. For this reason, since 2009 the Fiesta de Verdiales has been in the process of being declared an Asset of Cultural Interest with the category Activity of Ethnological Interest in several municipalities in the province of Malaga.
